JANDAYA PARAKEET
Status In The Wild: Protected
The Jandaya parakeet (also known as the Jenday Conure) is an affectionate and intelligent bird that bonds well with its owner, but it is also quite noisy!
APPEARANCE
The Jenday conure is very brightly colored and has golden orange and red coloration on the body and blue and green coloration on the back and wings. This conure is also frequently called the yellow-headed conure due to its coloration.
The adult Jenday conure measures around 12-inches long and weighs around 4-ounces.
VOCALIZATIONS
This parrot species is a wonderful mimic, however, it is not known for talking. This species of conure is well-known for mimicking household noises.
A bored or neglected Jenday will scream, which can cause a problem for neighbors.
LIFESPAN
The Jenday conure lives to an average of twenty years old in the wild. When kept in captivity, though, this colorful bird can live up to thirty years!
LIFE AS A PET
Jenday conures make incredible companions and are very snuggly with their owners, but in return, they do demand a good deal of attention.
A Jenday is always happy to learn new tricks and thrives with plenty of mental stimulation and a good amount of space to call their own. Without these things, they will become loud and destructive (like any bored parrot!)
PAIRING
The Jenday conure does well as a solo bird or with a companion bird. Bringing another bird into the home may impact the closeness of your relationship with your bird, though, as they begin to pay more attention to each other.
