Moluccan Cockatoo
How do you tell a Moluccan Cockatoo from any other type? Well, you’ll know you’re looking at the Moluccan Cockatoo when you see that it has salmon-pink feathers that cover most of their crest. That’s why these amazing birds are often referred to as salmon-crested cockatoos, as well.
No matter what you call them, they’re well known for their intense need for love and attention from humans. In simple terms, these birds are quite clingy. Some people might love that, while others may feel smothered by the somewhat-obsessive nature of the salmon-crested cockatoo.
Generally, these birds are one of the larger types you’ll find in the cockatoo family. Still, you may find them in a wide range of other sizes depending on which region of the world they come from.
Because of their size, caging the Moluccan Cockatoo requires a lot of personal space. That’s why their owners tend to house them in larger cages to ensure that they have enough room to move around comfortably.
Be careful, though!
While these birds will appreciate a partner, they’re also known for being very violent with their mates, especially during breeding periods.
Moluccan Cockatoos are intelligent, but they can also be quite hyper. Those high energy levels mean that you’ll need to feed them more than just regular birdseed. Instead, they’ll be much healthier on a healthy diet of seeds, nuts, grains, and even coconuts!
With such a wide range of tastes, there’s a lot of flexibility in deciding what to feed these birds.
