Parrotlets are the smallest birds in the parrot family measuring at only five inches long and come in three different colors – blue, yellow, or green. Though small, these birds have big personalities. They can be very affectionate in one moment and feisty the next.

Parrotlets live best as solo birds – if housed in pairs, one may establish dominance and bully the other. They are very active birds and love to play so a large cage despite their pint-sized appearance is usually better than a smaller one.

Native to South and Central America particularly Mexico, Parrotlets thrive on a balanced diet of fresh fruit, seeds, and vegetables. They are very easy to care for, are not noisy companions, and typically are not prone to disease. It is important to keep an eye out for them especially when out their cage as they can be easily stepped on.
